Roberts Pest Control prides itself on solving problems
Pest control is both an art and a science.
Charles Roberts, who started Roberts Pest Control, 509 W. Main St., Festus, about 17 years ago, said the job of keeping creepy-crawly things at bay in your living quarters covers more than just coming in and spraying some chemicals on your baseboards.
“I want employees who think outside the box,” Roberts said. “I look for problem-solvers. I want people who know what insects are about and how that particular insect behaves when it’s in your house and take pride in figuring out an answer. Not all problems have one solution.
“It doesn’t take long to figure out whether someone’s a problem-solver or not.”
Roberts said he and his staff of five pride themselves on customer service.
“A lot of times, I’ll get a call from someone on a call, and they’ll say that they noticed that an outside tree has a hornet’s nest or something like that, and can they take care of it now rather than coming back and charging for another service call. I tell them always to do what they feel is right, and that’s helping our customers out.”
Roberts said he decided to start his own company after working for nationally known operations.
“I didn’t like the way they did business,” he said. “The philosophy is, ‘Sell 10 to keep two.’ That never made any sense to me. I wanted to do things a much different way. Some of our clients are our friends, and some of them feel like family.”
The company also offers rodent mitigation, bedbug heat treatments and solutions to mosquito and termite problems. Its service area is the St. Louis metropolitan area, including Jefferson County.
