The Mulch Outlet has provided customers with high-quality products at a good value for 17 years, owner Jeff Hunt said.
The Pevely company, 2244 Front St., has sold recycled mulch, decorative stone, compost and topsoil in bulk and in bags since 2007. The company is an outgrowth of Hunt Corp., a three-generation warehousing business that started in 1953, he said.
“We take a great deal of pride in our mulch production to have the best performance of mulch anyone can buy,” Hunt said.
He said the company sells most of its mulch in the spring with a slight bump in sales in the fall. However, Mulch Outlet is open all year, and Hunt said decorative rock makes up half of his company’s sales.
Hunt said customers will find value in his product because he sells his mulch in cubic yards, adding that one scoop of his mulch is a cubic yard.
“If people compare the volume you get for the dollar that you pay, it is quite a bit cheaper for a superior product,” Hunt said. “That is hard to sell because people will call people up and ask how much you are selling by a scoop. A scoop can be anything. Someone may sell it for $17 a scoop, but it is only a third of what I sell in terms of volume.”
Hunt said he has kept his price at $32 a scoop for four years.
“I have held this price because of the economy,” he said. “It is the best value around anywhere.”
