LeAnna Obermeyer, center, is now a full-time real estate agent after decades of buying and selling houses.
Obermeyer not quite new to the business
LeAnna Obermeyer of Main Key Realty has been buying and selling real estate for decades, but mostly as a part-time pursuit.
“I bought my first house to flip at 19,” she said.
With an education degree from Webster University, she went into teaching and got a real estate license “on the side.” She taught at Festus for more than 20 years, then at Jefferson R-7 until last spring, when she made the leap to full-time agent.
Her experiences along the way have contributed to her effectiveness.
“One of my benefits was being raised in a family of entrepreneurs,” she said. “We started a construction business a few years ago, and if I have a client whose home needs modifications, repairs, etc., I can help guide them. I have a good grasp of costs and what’s out there. I also have contacts with an engineering firm that comes in handy for inspections and other questions.”
She has mentored those just starting out.
“I had an investment club of young people who didn’t know about interest rates, credit scores, what home buying looks like. We met with a lender and others to help them develop skills. I said I didn’t care if they ended up being my competition; having people be more knowledgeable is just good for everybody.”
Obermeyer said she has made thousands of contacts, and has developed some strategies for navigating the current market.
“I try to keep one of my investment units open as a ‘landing pad’ for people who have a gap between sale and new purchase,” she said. “I want to have everything lined up to give my clients the best chance to get exactly what they’re aiming for. Real estate is what I love to do; it’s my passion.”
