Family is big at Kelly’s Flooring.
The store, 2311 Little Antire Road in High Ridge, is owned by the Murphy family, which has been in the local flooring industry since 1978.
“Larry and Elka owned Murphy’s Carpets for years, then sold it,” said Christy Eads, design consultant for Kelly’s. “Their kids (Kelly and Tom) graduated college and started families and decided they wanted to open another flooring store. They grew up in the business, literally.
“Kelly’s opened 12 or 13 years ago,” she said.
Eads, who’s been working for Kelly’s for three years, said she was struck by the family atmosphere.
“I come from a small town in Missouri and my family owned a business, but this is something special,” she said. “Everybody who walks through the door seems to know at least somebody here, and they’re coming back. It’s family on both sides of the sale. That says something not only about the Murphy family, but their workmanship and their follow-up.
“People tell me one of the things that impress them most is our installers. When you’re getting a new floor, you have to move furniture, and that can be stressful. But they try to make it as smooth and seamless as possible,” Eads said.
Kelly’s offers top-of-the-line products in carpeting, hardwoods, tile, luxury vinyl tile, laminate and vinyl.
“We also can make custom rugs,” Eads said. “Any carpet in the place, we can make into an area rug of any size or shape.”
She said Kelly’s showroom is just that.
“Everybody loves our showroom,” she said. “It really is nice.”
If all that isn’t enough to sell you, there’s Noodles.
“Noodles is a Golden Doodle,” Eads said. “He’s Kelly’s dog, and he’s here maybe 50 to 60 percent of the time.”
