B.F. Mahn & Sons in De Soto, established more than a century and a half ago, is the longest running business in Jefferson County.
Established in 1868, it originally was a blacksmith shop, but now offers plumbing and heating and air-conditioning services. It’s located at 112 W. Clement St.
Vice president Beth (Mahn) Ross and operations manager Courtney Mahn said the family-owned establishment has adapted to changing times and technologies through the years.
“Once indoor plumbing became a thing, being the wise business man he was, my grandfather jumped into the world of plumbing,” Ross said.
“We developed with the changing times to provide quality service for repairs and new construction,” Mahn said.
B.F. Mahn & Sons is committed to serving Jefferson County but also provides services to surrounding counties, Ross said.
The company, which has 22 employees, has been especially busy over the past few years, she added.
“We have not slowed down at all,” Ross said. “So, we’ve actually increased our employees and our trucks because there’s been more demand.”
Mahn said several factors set B.F. Mahn & Sons apart from other plumbing and HVAC companies.
“We have a storefront and the latest programs online, as well as emergency evening and weekend appointments,” Mahn said. “You can come see us face-to-face or have contactless communication through our website.”
Ross and Mahn said that while B.F. Mahn & Sons has weathered many changes over its 155-year history, its principle remains the same.
“We are here today and we will be here tomorrow,” Mahn said.
