Family affair - For Heartland Realty staff, clients are not just customers
The staff of Heartland Realty in De Soto is a tightly knit group, and they all like it that way.
“Our office is very family oriented,” said realtor Amanda Wall, who also serves as office secretary. “We work together as a family, and our clients tend to become like family, too.
“That’s why a lot of people come back – we treat them like family, and they stay in touch and we stay in touch with them. Agents like to check up on them, send thank-you letters and cards.”
Broker/owner Patty Hammond, two other brokers and 14 realtors and sales associates make up the agency, headquartered at 50 Jefferson Square.
“We are very aware of and familiar with the area and the people. Knowing your community gives you such an advantage,” Hammond said. “We don’t charge buyers any agency fee; the commission agreed upon is all you pay. But we offer the perks big corporations have, like accessibility and knowledgeability, and we advertise on a wide range of platforms.”
The agency has always made community service a priority.
“Patty sponsors a book that is sent to all the second-grade classes in the local schools,” Wall said. “It’s all about the keys to treating people with respect and kindness. She also sponsors a keepsake book that is presented by Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home to grieving families following a loss.”
The agency also helps sponsor programs for local schools, churches and businesses and for groups like Get Healthy De Soto and PRIDE, as well as supporting the Chamber of Commerce scholarship program. The office adopted two families at Christmas, providing clothing, toys and gifts from a wish list.
“We’ve given more than $12,000 over the last few years to A Safe Place at Mary’s House of Hope,” Wall said.
