It’s time to get sod projects underway
Everyone knows the old story about the early bird, but in addition to the worm, he also can get a jump on a beautiful lawn with Gil Schroeder Sod Sales in House Springs
“In good weather, we cut daily. The guys start at 5 a.m.,” office manager Trish Petrus said. “The office opens at 7 and the contractors are there waiting. Especially the later we get in the season, (the early start) helps beat the heat.”
With at least one day’s notice, the company can fill any size order for sod.
“It doesn’t get any fresher,” Petrus said.
The family-owned company has been in business since 1980 at 4600 Byrnesville Road. It serves customers in Jefferson, St. Louis, St. Charles and Franklin counties.
“We’re one of the largest in Missouri, if not the whole Midwest,” Petrus said. “And even with inflation, the rising costs of seed and fuel and labor, we still have a very competitive price point on everything we offer.”
Gil Schroeder Sod Sales offers seed sales, sod delivery and installation as well as pick-up orders of fresh-cut sod.
“Spring is a fantastic time to seed or to install sod,” Petrus said. “We sell two different types of seed.”
Office hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

“They can get a lot of their general questions answered that way and get the information they need to place a successful order,” Petrus said.
