Farmers and Merchants Bank, a community bank, is the place to turn to before buying a home.
Vice president and Eureka branch manager BJ Hillermann said in today’s real estate market, it is important to talk with an experienced lender and the staff at the community bank has plenty of experience.
Hillermann said he has been in the business for 18 years.
“It’s such a dynamic time. We’ve got the experience of having been through the cycle and our bank offers a wide variety of different programs,” he said. “We can help identify which ones are best for the clients we are serving based on their circumstances.”
Hillermann said he likes to talk with prospective home buyers to help guide them to their end goal.
“A lender is just looking to make a loan, looking for a transaction. We’re bankers. We’re looking for a relationship and looking to do what’s right, for the borrower and the bank,” he said.
Hillermann said a community bank has a different feel than a big bank.
“It’s privately owned by people that live in our communities so our mission is to support the growth and development of our communities,” he said. “It’s more about the whole relationship than just the transaction.”
He said Farmers and Merchants Bank was founded 109 years ago and likes to be active in the community.

“We have real people answering the phone,” he said. “You don’t get a computer that you have to fight through trying to actually talk to somebody.”
