Now is the time to sell your home

Crystal Schirmer of Exit Elite Real-ty says anyone considering selling their home should do it soon.

The Festus-based realtor, who also works out of Exit Elite’s office at 1960 Richardson Road in Arnold, said now is the prime time to sell a home since interest rates are starting to rise.

“This is the time to sell your home if you are thinking about it because you will get the maximum amount now before interest rates rise higher,” she said.

Schirmer said no one knows for sure exactly how high interest rates will climb, but they are on the increase.

“I tell my sellers not only will you get the maximum amount for your home right now, but if you want to get your home exposed to the maximum amount of buyers, they need to do it soon,” she said.

Schirmer said homeowners who are worried about finding a new place to live after selling their home can ensure peace of mind by writing a contingency into a potential sale.

In the past, contingency contracts typically were written for the buyer, but now contracts are written with the contingency that the seller must find a new home before finalizing a sale, she said.

“There is no risk when listing your home,” Schirmer said. “You will usually have 90 days for the seller to find something. If the seller can’t find anything within those 90 days, the seller can get out of the contract and continue living in the home. Sellers have the option now to have the ball in their court.”

Schirmer said she helps lots of people sell and purchase homes in Jefferson County.
