Becky Gedney of BG Sewing, Quilts and Embroidery has lots of ideas for custom, personalized projects – and the skill and tools to make them a reality.
“Embroidery is what I really focus on,” she said. “I have four embroidery machines: two industrial, one commercial, one regular. I have more than 300 thread colors to choose from, way more than you typically get.”
Gedney creates embroidered stuffed animals with a removable outer skin.
“They zip open so the outside is washable,” she said. “I have something like 300 in stock in all different sizes. The smaller ones at a lower price point I sell like crazy at farmers markets.”
Gedney, 61, of Eureka said lately she has been focusing more on embroidered gift items for businesses and companies, like golf towels, rally towels, hats, shirts and logos, she said.
“I can imagine Realtors doing gift baskets for clients, with personalized towel sets. That’s a great way to personalize a sale.”
Personalized towels like this one would make perfect realtor gift basket items, Gedney says.
Gedney said she is working on wedding ideas, such as terry and satin robes; hankies; towel sets and gifts.
“Think of a handkerchief with a blue border and blue script,” she said. “Friends could pass it down to the next bride as a ‘borrowed’ or a ‘blue’ item. It’s a one-of-a-kind thing, a unique and sentimental item with an emotional attachment.”
Gedney encourages prospective customers to visit her Facebook page, BGS Quilts & Embroidery, for ideas before calling or texting her at 314-277-5757.
“Since everything I do is 100 percent custom, they have to talk to me,” she said. “I work up a design and submit it for approval. If I have the item in stock, I can do it within the week, generally.”
Gedney can also embroider on a customer’s own item, as long as it fits on her machine.
