Eureka Contracting & Roofing recommends roof inspections now.

Time for a roof checkup? Call Eureka Contracting

Winter is coming, and now is the time to make sure your roof is ready to handle the inclement weather, said Rick Hinkson, owner of Eureka Contracting & Roofing, 128 S. Virginia Ave.

Hinkson, 65, said it is a good idea for both homeowners and business owners to get in front of potential problems before roofs are drenched with rain and covered up with falling leaves and snow.

“As we come into fall and winter, leaves start to gather on roofs and behind chimneys that can create issues,” he said. “It is a good time to have your roof checked.”

Eureka Contracting, which has operated since 2012, offers free roof inspections for residential and commercial customers.

Hinkson said employees look for potential trouble spots, like shingles that are missing or that aren’t sealed and could be lifted by wind. They also check flashing around chimneys to make sure everything is sealed properly.

He said the company provides a one-page report and photos following the inspection, and he recommends everyone get their roofs inspected before they start seeing things like water marks on interior ceilings.

“Once you start seeing the water marks, you have interior problems,” he said. “Typically, we can head that off by doing an inspection and being proactive instead of reactive.”

Hinkson also said business owners and residential owners with flat roofs would benefit from getting roof coating applied to their buildings.

“You can coat (a roof) for about 40 percent of what it costs to replace one,” he said. “It is a white roof with an 86 percent reflectivity. It will cool the building down a lot.”
