Realtor Donna Flamm said she’s had a lot of success at Gateway Real Estate in Crystal City.

What sets Flamm apart in this business, she said, is her legal background paired with her real estate expertise
“I worked for about two decades as a paralegal and administrator, so my legal background is very beneficial in the world of real estate,” she said. “As a realtor, we deal with a lot of legal contracts and it’s mind-blowing how much we walk the line between realtor, lawyer, judge and jury.”
She said the real estate market is challenging for homebuyers right now.
“Inflation is a challenge, and inventory is still very low because so many people who got that 2-3 percent interest rate a few years ago really want to hold on to their house.”
But, Flamm said, opportunities are available to first-time homebuyers to alleviate the financial challenges they face.
“There are a lot of government programs for first-time homebuyers offering free money,” Flamm said. “Just one example is the Missouri Housing Development Corporation offering buyers up to $5,000 toward either a down payment or closing costs.”
Flamm is VA-certified, which means she has training to help veterans and military members buy and sell homes.
“I find that so many people who have served are not taking advantage of their veteran benefits,” she said. “Some people think that since they used their VA loan once to buy a house, they can’t use it anymore. That’s not true.”
