New storage facility opens near De Soto
Just days after officially opening for business, Cornerstone Storage, 3655 Athena School Road near De Soto, already is busy. This is the second location for the company.
“Our facility in Conway opened in 2021,” said owner Gary Strieder. “This one is just opening, and we already have seven units rented.”
Cornerstone offers about 120 units in five sizes, ranging from 5-by-5 feet to 10-by-30 feet. Larger sizes have garage doors at both ends of the unit for ease of getting items in and out. Customers can choose a size, then choose whether they need a conventional unit or one that is temperature-controlled. There also are parking spaces for boat and RV storage.
“We’re fully fenced with an electronic gate,” Strieder said. “Customers have their own custom code. There is dusk-to-dawn lighting and 13 security cameras.”
Strieder said the pandemic pushed the storage industry toward a near-contactless business model.
“Operators started putting in place websites instead of having someone on-site,” he said. “Part of our office will have regular hours, then part will be separated into an area that is open 24 hours with a touch-screen kiosk. It’s pretty seamless.”
Strieder confessed he still enjoys meeting customers face-to-face, though.
“I’m old school. I like seeing people and knowing their names,” he said. “But the new way reduces staffing expense, and that makes us able to be more competitive in our pricing.”
Customers will still be able to easily contact Strieder and his two business partners: his son, Jason, of Hillsboro and Tim Myers of French Village.
“We are family owned and locally operated,” he said. “We’re proud of that.”
