Consort Homes: Not your average builder

Consort Homes isn’t your typical home builder, and the company is proud that its homes aren’t like other builders’ products, said Dawn Thurman, marketing coordinator for the Chesterfield-based company.

“We are a small production builder,” she said. “That means we only build 100 or so homes per year.”

Thurman said in Eureka, Consort is in the second phase of building homes in the Windswept Farms development, with the third phase opening soon.

“There are about 80 lots still available there,” she said.

Thurman said three-car garages and 9-foot main floor ceilings are standard in the Heritage line at Windswept Farms.

“We typically have more features than other homebuilders,” Thurman said. “We pride ourselves on providing standard features that are often considered upgrades with other builders.

“Our exteriors are a little different. We won’t put the same color schemes as you find in surrounding homes in the same neighborhood. We try to stay away from the cookie-cutter approach. Our homes stand out within a community.”

Thurman said the company also is rolling out a new floorplan in its Sierra model that includes wider hallways, easy-entry showers and easy access to the home through the garage.

“While you think of things like wider hallways as helping older people with walkers and wheelchairs, when you see them, they look like a luxury amenity,” Thurman said. “Those features make it easier to live in a home longer. The Sierra is our most popular ranch floorplan, and at 2,200 square feet, it’s not too big, and not too small for most people.”

While the name Consort Homes is fairly new, Thurman said, the company is not.

“We have more than 90 years of experience,” she said. “We started as the Jones Company. We’re in our second generation of owners.”
