Kristy Carder has been around design most of her life.
From her father’s work as an engineer, drawing blueprints for houses, to her own career in graphic design, she said, it has always been a presence. Seven years ago, she turned her love for design into Comfort Cabinetry, 404 N. Main St., in De Soto.
“My goal is to make sure (our customers) love their new space when they’re finished with it,” Carder said. “So I ask a ton of questions, and I don’t know that people get that same level of care (from big box stores). I really care about what you’re getting in your home. It’s not just me selling cabinets.”
The design and remodeling company provides cabinetry, countertops and design/remodeling services for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, home offices, and even coffee bars.
Comfort Cabinetry’s service area covers the greater St. Louis area.
“You’re working with us every step of the way,” Carder said, noting the company also offers free design consultations. “Most of the time people have my personal cell phone number … and you’re working with the same group of people through the entire process.”
That approach, she said, was by design.
“I think this whole process can be very scary,” Carder said. “I think people, (sometimes they) don’t even know where to start. They want a new kitchen but don’t know where to start. So we start with a conversation.”
Comfort Cabinetry takes on both new construction projects and remodels. New construction begins with clients sending Carder blueprints, while for a remodel, she visits the client’s home to get a feel for the customers’ thoughts on the current space.
The company continues to grow, and its next venture will focus on an outdoor metal kitchen cabinet line and garage cabinets.
