Festus store to expand

The Backbone Home store in Festus is expanding.

Owners Corin and Christian Roth of Festus will continue selling home goods, gifts and clothing at their approximately 2,200-square-foot shop at 220 E. Main St., which opened in October 2021.

However, the couple will open a second store at 420 W. Main St., which currently houses a photography studio. The new location, taking in about 3,300 square feet, will carry furniture and furnishings such as rugs and lighting, Corin said.

She said the new location is expected to open in July.

Corin said the store will carry mainly new furniture but some second-hand items.

“We will (sell products) from vendors no one in Missouri carries,” she added.

Corin said she also hopes to hold community events at the new location.

“We have a patio, so we want to have events where people sit outside and listen to music, have some drinks and food. We carry charcuterie stuff (at the current store) we can serve,” she said.

The current store also carries a large line of candles and all sorts of home decor such as florals, wall decor and seasonal decor.

The Roths also sell gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers and weddings.

Corin said she and her husband support neighboring businesses by selling some of their products.

She said she hopes the second location helps the business grow.

Corin said her husband is a veteran, so an important part of the business is to carry products from vendors that support veterans and other charitable causes.

“We want to source vendors that give back,” she said. “Lots of our vendors are veteran-owned and help veterans’ causes.

“The purpose behind our business is not just a store but to improve the community and help support other small businesses and causes we feel are important.”
