For many homeowners, a do-it-yourself project is easy to tackle, but only with the right tools and equipment.
Common Cents Rental, 1080 Gravois Road, in the Fenton area, offers an array of goods and services to help DIY-ers succeed, said Jennifer Ficken, president of the company.
The family-owned business, established in 2009, rents a variety of equipment to homeowners and small contractors.
“We’re family owned and know most of our customers,” Ficken said. “It’s not like a big-box store.”
Common Cents rents lawn equipment, mini excavators and skid steers. It also has air tools; concrete tools; generators; welders; ladders and lifts; paint sprayers; and power washers; trailers; trenchers; and even machines that blow straw over a newly seeded lawn.
The company sells equipment and parts for brands like Echo, Redmax, Husqvarna and Grasshopper. It also carries Fisher snowplows.
Common Cents is an exclusive dealer for Toro equipment, offering free delivery within 15 miles. It is an Airgas Exchange and offers lawn mower blade and chainsaw sharpening.
The company repairs small engines and lawn equipment, too.
“We have basic parts in stock for many of the lawn mower engine brands on the market, such as Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Kawasaki, Honda and Tecumseh,” Ficken said.
Items not in stock may be ordered and typically delivered within a few days.
The company website at commoncentsrental.com offers DIY-ers help with an array of free how-to videos.
Hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday; 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. After-hour emergency services are available for rental equipment.
Ficken said customer service is the company’s main priority.
“We really try to make things right,” she said. “We are small enough to care and big enough to get the job done.”
