William Joseph "Bill" Moder, 77, of Byrnes Mill died Dec. 28, 2024. Mr. Moder worked for the Chrysler Corporation for 40 years, but his true passion was farming. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Most of all, he loved spending time at the farm, especially at his picnic table where he loved hosting friends, sharing a few cold beers and creating memories with his family. He also enjoyed taking rides around the farm on his Gator with his wife and dog. He was a veteran and served overseas in the Vietnam War, earning several combat decorations for his service including three Purple Hearts, the Air Medal, the Bronze Star with “V” device and the Silver Star with “V” device. He also was a member of the VFW, the Purple Heart Association, the American Legion and the DAV. He will be remembered for being a friend to anyone and never meeting a stranger. Born March 17, 1947, he was the son of the late Leander and Marie (Schmitt) Moder.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years: Beverly Moder (Schroyer); two children: Tom (Tara) Moder and Wes (Sarah) Moder; three grandchildren: Austin, Julia and Dexter; two sisters: Mary (Alan) Snipes and Barbara (Willie) Brison; and many other family members and friends.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at the mortuary. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 5331 of Cedar Hill or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
