Robert Franklin Cohoon, 84, of Crystal City died Feb. 28, 2025, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Cohoon joined the U.S. Navy on Oct 3, 1958, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 2, 1962, to the U.S. Naval Reserves. He served as master-at-arms at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. He re-enlisted in the Navy on Feb. 25, 1963, and served aboard the USS Saratoga until he was discharged on Feb. 17, 1965. He worked as a mail handler for the United States Post Office. He enjoyed going to the casino, listening to music, dancing, playing bingo and spending time with his three dogs. Most of all, he loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals and football, especially when his sons would play. Born June 23, 1940, in West City, Ill., he was the son of the late Robert Leeman and Fleta Fern (Dethrow) Cohoon.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years: Alice Grace (White) Cohoon of Crystal City, whom he married on June 16, 1989, in St. Charles; three sons: Robert L. Cohoon of St. Louis, Eric Cohoon of St. Louis and Jeff Mitchell of Crystal City; a daughter: Cindy (Alan) Turner of Festus; a sister-in-law: Kay Cohoon of Herculaneum; 10 grandchildren: Meaghan, Rachael, Chase, Kali, Grace, Ella, Ava, Lexi, Brayden and Macie; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Edward L. Cohoon; and a sister: Anna Roberts.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until services at noon Monday, March 10, at Mahn Twin City Chapel, 515 Collins Ave., in Festus, officiated by Jimmy Rhives. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, Attn: Shriners Children's Processing Center, P.O. Box 947765, Atlanta, GA, 30394. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel.
