Mountford, Monroe

Monroe W. Mountford, 79, of Sunset Hills died June 2, 2026. Mr. Mountford was a graduate of De Soto High School and Westminster College. He served his country as a tank commander in the U.S. Army. Upon returning home, along with his wife, he owned and operated Mountford Markets in Cedar Hill and Festus. He then served as the C.O.O. of Wease Distributing until his retirement. Born Oct. 7, 1946, in Graniteville, he was the son of the late Metford William and Mary Genevieve (Edmonds) Mountford. He was the stepson of the late James Culwell.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 58 years: Kimberlea “Kim” (Bennett) Mountford of Sunset Hills; three children: Alex (Mark) Mahn of De Soto, BG John (Amanda) Mountford of Wiesbaden, Germany, and Mark (Melissa) Mountford of Sunset Hills; seven grandchildren: Connor (Sydney) Mahn, Grant (Rylee) Mahn, James Mountford, Abigail Mountford, Elizabeth Mountford, Madison Mountford and Max Mountford; a brother-in-law: Lance (Linda) Bennett; four sisters-in-law: Lynn Bennett, Lisa (Jeff) Kerr, Kay Bennett and Ruth Bennett; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Metford Mountford (survived by his wife, Mary, and daughter, Meda, of Manvel, Texas); and two brothers-in-law: Jewett Bennett and Derek Bennett.

A graveside service will take place at a later date in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
