Morie, John

John L. Morie, 93, of Farmington died July 11, 2026. Mr. Morie served during the Korean War as a corporal in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he built a career at Granite City Steel, where he worked diligently until his retirement, providing for his family through years of hard work and dedication. Considered a giant of a man whose presence could fill a room, he was known for his booming voice, contagious laugh and bigger-than-life personality. He loved spending time with his family, telling stories, creating memories and making them laugh. He also loved coon hunting and enjoyed being outdoors. He had a gift for seeing the value in ordinary things and shared his resourcefulness and perseverance with others. He will be remembered for his love, generosity, resilience and devotion to family. Born March 16, 1933, in Kelso, he was the son of the late Mike and Mary Morie.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Ruby Morie.

He is survived by his friend: Sharon Poole; four grandchildren: Kyle (Amanda) Morie, Jonathan (Elise) Cordray, Karli (Matt) Lundergan and Benjamen (Sara) Cordray; 17 great-grandchildren: Lillian, Logan, Dakota Ruby, Jonathan Jr., Madison, Carter, Hunter, Indiana, Maverick, Finneghan, Adia, Owen, Monroe, Kennedy, Ira Grace, Israel and Leland; three siblings: Dorothy, Larry and Herb; and many other family members and friends.

He also was preceded in death by two children: Monica Cordray and Keith (Mary) Morie.

Visitation is scheduled from 10 a.m. until services at noon Saturday, July 18, at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis County. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis South County Chapel.
