James Roscoe “Jim” Flint-Smith, 80, of House Springs died Oct. 3, 2026. Mr. Flint-Smith served in the military before continuing his commitment to public service through a career in law enforcement. During both chapters of his life, he distinguished himself as an accomplished competitive marksman, earning championship honors while representing both his state and his division. He was an accomplished equestrian from a young age, competing at an elite level and winning horse-jumping competitions. His love of horses and the traditions of the American West remained with him throughout his life, as he was considered an American cowboy. For a time, he worked as an actor alongside some of Hollywood's biggest names. His passion for the Old West and living history also led him to help supply western props for The Muny in St. Louis and to perform educational cowboy shows at Silver Dollar City in Branson.
He was known for building strong ties and lasting friendships wherever he went. He dedicated many hours to coaching, historical events, Civil War reenacting and educational presentations for young people. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his children, being present, involved, encouraging and proud of them. He will be remembered for teaching through his actions, leading by example and sharing many stories and memories with others. He was born on Aug. 16, 1946.
He is survived by two daughters: Myra (Dan) and Abby (Steve); a son: Jimmy (Taylor); three grandsons: Remmy, Braxton and Asher; and two granddaughters: Lilly and Harper.
A funeral service was held Oct. 9 at Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
