Houser, David

David T. Houser, 92, of Hillsboro died Aug. 24, 2026. Mr. Houser married his wife in 1963. He was a missionary in Papua New Guinea from 1963 to 1973, pastored Lutheran Churches in Hardwick and Troske, Minn., from 1973 to 1977 and moved to Hillsboro in 1977 to be a part of Christian Outreach Center and Church. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children and their families, and sharing his love for Jesus. Born June 28, 1934, in Alamosa, Colo., he was the son of the late Denver and Esther (Schurdel) Houser. 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Mona Houser; five children: Anne-marie (Michael) Scott, Philip (Aimee) Houser, William (Rochelle) Houser, Christopher (Heather) Houser and Elizabeth (Paul) Ehlen; two siblings: Paul (Connie) Houser and Judith (Richard) Gritz; sister-in-law: Patricia Houser; and 16 grandchildren: Kelsea, October and Brenna Scott, Carah, IdaMae, Josephine, Rosalynne, Alexander, Adam (Jalynn), Anna, Nathan and Claire Houser and Noah, Ruthanna, Esther and Rebecca Ehlen.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Ronald Houser.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept.13, at Christian Outreach Church, 4440 Outreach Drive, in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to Christian Outreach Church, Christian Outreach School or Disability Resource Association in Festus. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary, Robert Brown Chapel, in Hillsboro.
