Lott, Cody

Cody Joseph Lott, 32, of Festus died Nov. 11, 2023, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, after a long fight with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. After being told he would only live to be 18, one of Mr. Lott’s main goals in life was to graduate high school.  Not only did he beat the odds of graduating (largely due to the assistance of his great friend and aid, Bill Hammock), but he outlived the life expectancy by 14 years. He was also crowned prom king his senior year at Herculaneum High School. Besides spending time with his family, he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Blues fan. He also loved music and attending concerts.  He never missed a Papa Roach or Falling in Reverse concert. He also had a love of chicken tenders and anything drenched in hot sauce. He was known for his quick wit and finding humor in the most mundane life circumstances. While he was faced with a terminal diagnosis at a very young age, he never wanted to be treated differently than anyone else.  He loved hard and fought even harder. Born Feb. 22, 1991, in St. Louis, he was the son of Cynthia (Underwood) and John Lott Sr., both of Festus.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by six siblings: Shawn (Amanda) Heinold of Dittmer, Shannon (Adam) Williams of Oakville, Stephanie (Joshua) Mofield of Pacific, Johnny (Tasha) Lott Jr. of Festus, Joshua (Kadie) Lott of Festus and Jordan Lott of St. Louis; and 17 nieces and nephews: Austin, Gauge, Brayden, Angelina, Dominic, Taylor, Chad, Josey, Skylur, Emersyn, Charley, Kinlee, Kamdyn, Grady, Lawson, Ledger and Leddie; and by longtime home healthcare nurses and friends: Joy, Chris and Desra.

A celebration of Mr. Lott’s life will be held at later date in the near future.  The family has asked that if you would like to honor Cody, please attend a St. Louis Blues or Cardinals game and have a drink in his honor. Donations may be made to The Make a Wish Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
