Hessler, Arthur 'Art'

Arthur “Art” Hessler, 98, of Ballwin died Oct. 4, 2026. Mr. Hessler and his wife moved to their dream home on Sunrise Lake in De Soto after retirement, where he was known as a devoted member of the community. He drove the school bus for Sunrise School District for nearly 30 years and coached basketball at the school. He was also involved in the De Soto Bowling League and a member at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He enjoyed frequent large family gatherings at the Big Lake, sitting around the fire, fishing and swimming. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, making them laugh with silly jokes, songs and stories. He will be remembered for his quick wit and fun-loving sense of humor. He was born April 3, 1928.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Loretta T. (Hanrahan) Hessler.

He is survived by five children: Kris (Denise), Micki (Mike) Vancil, Karen (Andy) Smith, Sandy (Harold Sher) Short and Eric Hessler; 10 grandchildren: Shannon (Michelle) Hessler, Nick (Stacey) Hessler, Hannah (Miles) James, Lindsey (Joe Kabance) Hessler, Madison (Bo) Sheahan, Emily (Brandon) Gipson, Jake Short, Jessica Short, Eli Hessler and Keegan Hessler; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sibling: Terry (Linda) Hessler; and many other family members and friends.

He also was preceded in death by two children: Rick (Lori) Hessler and Kimberly Hessler; and a sibling: Bill (Kathy) Hessler.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis County. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis South County Chapel.
