Maryflo Schunks, 98, of Crystal City died March 8, 2019, at her home. Mrs. Schunks was a secretary for the Crystal City School District from 1964 to 1988. She was a member of the Crystal City Retired Teachers Association and an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a longtime organist and choir director. Born July 11, 1920, in Wilson, Ark., she was the daughter of the late Cloa Helen (Schenimann) and William H. Poggmeier.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Joe Daniel Schunks.
She is survived by a son: Daniel (Ellen) Schunks of Farmington; a daughter: Anne Blanton of Chicago; a sister-in-law: Eunice Poggmeier of St. Charles; and two grandsons: Nathan and Phillip Schunks.
She was preceded in death by a brother: Dr. William H. Poggmeier; and a sister: Esther Ruth (the late Gerhart) Jab.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 221 Brierton Lane, Crystal City, followed immediately by funeral services officiated by Pastor Kyle Castens. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
