Varner, Hank

Henry Earl “Hank” Varner, 79, of Keokuk, Iowa, died Aug. 12, 2022, at Blessing Hospital in Keokuk. Mr. Varner graduated from Keokuk High School in 1961 and went on to become a machinist at Hubingers, retiring in 1996 after 34 years. He was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk. Born March 1, 1943,in Keokuk, he was the son of the late Alfred C. and Anna (Haage) Varner.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years: Janice “Jan” (Scates) Varner, whom he married on Sept. 23, 1972, at First Baptist Church in Arnold; two sons: Earl Varner of Keokuk and Brent (Rita) Varner;  four grandchildren: McKenzie Hunter and Lilyann, Landen and Louis Henry Varner, all of Troy, Mo.; his mother-in-law: Ronelva Scates of Arnold; a sister-in-law: Cynthia (Terry) Livell of Arnold; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother: Alfred Lee Varner; a sister: Joyce (George) Kinman; his father-in-law: Clifford E. Scates; and one grandchild: Charlie Varner.

Visitation is scheduled from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk,  with family meeting friends from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the church, followed by burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Keokuk.
