Donald Edward Rieken, 82, of Arnold died March 11, 2017. Mr. Rieken was a retired salesman for Bruening Bearings Inc. in St. Louis and a member of St. David Catholic Church. He also was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army and a longtime softball and American Legion baseball coach in the Arnold area. Born Aug. 19, 1934, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Henry and Antonette Rieken. He and his late wife, Norma Rieken, raised their family in Arnold and sent their children to Fox High School.
He is survived by nine children: Debbie (Mark Mallett) of Fenton, Colleen Martin of Arnold, Cathy Carter of Arnold, David (David Forbes) Rieken of Santa Fe, N.M., Chris (Don) McNabb of Imperial, Maureen (Dale) Chavez of Phoenix, Ariz., Dianne (David) Brewer of Arnold, Deneen (Nathan) LaNasa of Barnhart and Donna (Tom) Nappier of south St. Louis County; a brother: Joe (Dorothy) Rieken; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: Jim (the late Helen) Metz and Jerry (Pat) Kelley; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son: Daniel; and seven siblings.
Visitation is at 1 p.m. and a memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis County. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Homes.
