Carol L. Shores, 67, of Festus died Jan. 2, 2015, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Shores was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Crystal City. Born Feb. 28, 1947, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Hortense (Marshall) Riney and Carl “Ted” Cook.
She is survived by her husband: Donald L. Shores; three sons: Darrin Shores of Crystal City, Donald Shores of Crystal City and Charles (Sherry) Shores Sr. of Festus; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her goddaughter: Yolanda Fischer of California; six sisters: Eileen (Elroy) Meredith of Sparta, Ill.; Gloria Byas of De Soto; Sharon Riney of Crystal City; Cheryl Morgan of Ft. Worth, Texas; Denise (Ernest Sr.) Brown of Festus; and Cecilia (Patrick) Kinder of Festus; three brothers: Jerry Riney Sr. of St. Louis, Alvin (Connie) Riney Sr. of St. Louis County and Dennis (Idis) Riney of Crystal City; a sister-in-law: Charlene Keaton of Crystal City; and a brother-in-law: Steven Shores of Crystal City.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather: Printon Riney; two brothers: Robert S. Cook and Floyd Dickerson; and one sister: Lisa Victoria Riney.
Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. and funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main, in Festus, officiated by the Rev. Freeman Robinson. Burial is in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
