Barton, Carl

Carl I. Barton, 85, of Sullivan died Jan. 2, 2020, at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital in Sullivan. Mr. Barton was born July 25, 1934, in Centerville, the son of the late Houston O. and Alice (Sutton) Barton. He was a Teamster for Tucker Freight Lines for many years, later serving as chief engineer for West County Shopping Center in St. Louis County. He loved camping, fishing and watching cowboy movies. An avid reader, he loved comic books as a child and later became interested in detective stories and Louis L’Amour Western novels. He faithfully watched “Jeopardy” twice a day every day and loved to travel in the western half of the country.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris (Barker) Barton; two sons: Doug (Amy) Barton of Orlando, Fla., and Clay Barton of Arnold; two daughters: Shery Barton of Scottsville, Ky., and Clementine (Kevin) Carbery of Festus; six grandchildren: Clay Barton Jr., Brandon Barton, Gabrielle Barton, Holly Carbery, Heidi Carbery and Drake Barton; one great-grandchild: Nora Barton; a brother: Ronald (Viki) Barton of Pilot Knob; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Everett Barton and Charles Barton; and three sisters: Loretta Holland and infant sisters Sheila and Stella.

A remembrance will be held at from 4 - 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Eaton Funeral Home, 347 N. Clark St., in Sullivan, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m., officiated by Pastor Ryan Martin.
