The Jefferson County Department of Public Works will seek public input during an open house for its draft of the Walk Bike Jefferson County Master Plan.

The open house will be held from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Assembly Room of the Jefferson County Administration Center, 729 Maple St., in Hillsboro.

During the open house, attendees may view the draft of the master plan and provide feedback. In addition, a demonstration will be held in the parking lot outside the center to “help showcase and visualize what street improvement concepts are included in the plan to create safer places for walking and biking,” according to a written statement from the Public Works Department.

Also at the open house, the county’s draft design consultants, Crawford, Murphy & Tilly Inc. of St. Louis and SWT Design of St. Louis, will explain the plan and discuss the next steps in the planning process.

The county will pay an estimated $250,000 for the firms to design the master plan.

The draft will be shared with community members through the fall and submitted to the County Council for approval in February 2025.

“Extensive public engagement continues to be a key element of the plan,” according to the written statement. “The draft plan focuses on addressing safety, connectivity and comfortability of people walking and biking in Jefferson County, as well as a strategy for prioritizing improvements.”

Public Works employees will staff a booth from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, during the Apple Butter Festival in Kimmswick to get additional public feedback on the draft.
