The first Best of Eureka contest gives readers a chance to show support for local businesses that matter to them.

The voting round is now open for the best of Eureka contest. During the nomination round, which closed on Sept. 27, readers submitted 246 nominations across 72 categories.

“I was so excited to see all the local businesses nominated in Eureka,” said Katelyn Mary Skaggs, advertising manager for the Leader. “You have one last step which is to vote for your favorite so they can hopefully win and be named the best of Eureka.”

Voting will start today and end on Oct. 25. People may vote once a day in as many categories as they like online at myleaderpaper.com/bestofeureka.

“This is a way for Eureka residents, readers and community members to give back to businesses that have helped them at some point,” Skaggs said.

To vote, go to the webpage, click “Sign In to Continue Voting” underneath the countdown clock, register with your information to sign in, select one of 15 groups, then click the “Vote” button next to any of the nominee names.

“You can vote once a day in every single category,” Skaggs said. “So go share some love.”

Categories are segmented into five groups which include: Eat & Drink; Home, Auto & Services; Shopping & Style; Family, Health & Pets; and Fun, Arts & Local Life.

Each group contains multiple categories, for example, one of the Eat & Drink categories is Best Burger, and one of the Shopping & Style categories is Best Nail Salon.

Mid America Adventures is the title sponsor of the contest. Eureka Contracting and Roofing, Elle Salon, First Adventures Academy and Brookdale Farms are the group sponsors.

“Eureka has such a strong local business community.” Skaggs said. “This was our way to support them and give them a moment in the sun.”

Winners are decided by highest vote totals. Businesses and organizations that receive the second- and third-most votes in a category will be named as finalists.

Winners will be announced online on Oct. 30 and in the Nov. 19 edition of the Leader.
