Jefferson College officials are seeking submissions for a book of recipes and craft or activity ideas to be included in the publication, “A Balanced Viking Life.”
The deadline to enter a submission is April 30.
College officials plan to release the book this summer.
It will cost $15, and proceeds will help support the Jefferson College Viking Fund.
The Jefferson College Foundation is working with the Employee Support Committee, the Area Technical School Culinary Arts program and the Area Technical School Early Childhood Development on the project, said Marie Self, the college’s Fieldhouse coordinator.
She said in the past the college produced three recipe books, but not for nearly 30 years.
“The last one was in 1992,” Self said.
The COVID-19 pandemic inspired the college groups to put out another book, but an expanded one.
“Because of COVID and everyone having to do more with the home and family, we thought we’d add activities to this book,” Self said.
There is no cost to submit a recipe, craft or activity idea.
Submissions may be sent by regular mail to Jefferson College, Attn: Marie Self, 1000 Viking Drive, Hillsboro, 63050.
Recipe submissions may be made at http://bit.ly/JC-Recipe.
Craft or activity ideas should be made at http://bit.ly/JC-Craft.
“We’re asking for a variety of recipes,” Self said. “We’re looking at simple recipes for youngsters or adults to cook. Myself, I enjoy trying different things. I’ve seen oldies but goodies come around again.
“For the craft or activity ideas, it’s the same kind of principle. It could be a math or English activity or a physical activity.”
Those who send in submissions chosen for the book will be given credit for the ideas, Self said.
“Their names will be next to their submissions,” she said.
Pre-orders for the book are now being accepted through the website
Books may be picked up at the Hillsboro campus or shipped for an additional fee.
The Jefferson College Viking Fund works to provide scholarships, teaching innovations, updated technology, comprehensive programs and facility improvements, according to college officials.
