The Columbia Police Department responded to a report of "bear mace" being deployed at the Spirit Halloween on Nifong Boulevard on Saturday afternoon.

The store at 509 Nifong Blvd. closed shortly after, leaving Columbia residents with one less place to buy their last-minute Halloween gear.

Columbia police spokesperson Colin Imhoff said one adult was transported to the hospital for heavy exposure and is in stable condition.

Imhoff also said the Police Department believes this was an ill-advised prank or reckless behavior.

The Police Department is working on locating two juvenile suspects related to this incident.

Imhoff said the report came in as "bear mace," but it could have also been regular pepper spray.
