The Rock Township Ambulance District is accepting applications to fill a seat on its board of directors following Andrew West’s resignation from the board.

The board voted unanimously Sept. 18 to accept to accept his resignation.

He previously worked for the district and served on the board since 2021.

West, 44, of Imperial worked for the Rock Township district starting in 2007 as a paramedic and later as deputy chief and medical officer until 2021, when he left to take a position as operations manager with Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. He was elected to the six-member board in 2022, and his term would have expired in April 2025.

“It has been a privilege to serve the district,” he said. “I have a lot of personal and family commitments to honor, and I thought it best to step aside at this point.”

Longtime Rock Township district Chief Jerry Appleton said West has been an asset to the ambulance district.

“We wouldn’t have made a lot of the progress we have without Andrew,” he said. “I appreciate all the time he’s spent here and we all wish him the best.”

The new board member will be appointed to serve the remainder of West’s term, and a new, three-year term will be up for election in April.

Those interested in applying to fill the vacant seat on the board must be a U.S. citizen, at least 24 years old, a qualified voter in the Rock Township Ambulance District and a resident of the district for two years preceding the election date.

The deadline to submit an application for the board seat is 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10.

“Interviews will be held at a special open meeting on Oct. 16,” Appleton said. “The board will hopefully make a decision that night. I think their intention is to have that role filled before the next regular meeting on Oct. 23.”

Interested persons may request an application in person at district headquarters, 6707 St. Luke’s Church Road in Barnhart, during business hours; or email chief@rocktownship.com.
