The Jefferson County Assessor’s Office mailed out more than 28,000 reminder notices on March 29 to residents who have not submitted personal property assessment lists.
According to state law, anyone who owned personal property on Jan. 1 must declare it to the Assessor’s Office. Personal property includes cars, trailers, boats, livestock, farming and business-related equipment.
County residents must submit the list by May 1 to avoid late filing penalties.
Assessor Bob Boyer said people may file the forms by email, fax, mail or through the online filing system. To access the online system, go to jeffcomo.org/assessor.
County taxpayers who receive the reminder notice may electronically file assessment lists by using the account and PIN number printed at the top of the notice. Taxpayers may add or delete personal property items once signed into their online account.
Online filing is not available for business personal property assessment lists, according to the Assessor’s Office page on the Jefferson County website.
New county residents, current residents or business owners who did not receive an assessment list should call the Assessor’s Office at 636-797-5343 or email ppassessor@jeffcomo.org to request one.
