Roy Scott Baker, 54, of Arnold died Saturday (May 14) when he was shot in the head.
His live-in girlfriend, Denise Susanne Carr, 56, of Arnold, has been charged with murder for allegedly shooting and killing him, authorities report.
At about 10:40 p.m. Saturday, Arnold Police got a call that Carr had shot Baker at their home in the 1500 block of Polly Drive, Arnold Police reported.
When officers arrived there, they found Baker dead, the report said.
He had a single gunshot wound, according to the report.
Carr was arrested at the scene and during questioning, she allegedly admitted to shooting Baker after the two had a physical altercation, according to the report.
She said they had an argument and then Baker struck her in the face and choked her, so she went into a bedroom to get a .22-caliber handgun, the probable-cause statement said.
Carr said the altercation continued in the bedroom and Baker yelled at her and pulled her hair, and then left the bedroom and went into the living room, the report said.
“Carr did not call for assistance despite there being a phone in that (bedroom) and did not leave the residence to seek help,” according to the report. “She instead obtained the firearm, making sure it was loaded, and returned to the living room where the victim was (sitting) on a couch and (placed) the gun to the back of his head, firing one shot, causing his death.”
Today (May 16), the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office filed charges against her for second-degree murder, a class A felony punishable by 10 to 30 years or life in prison, and armed criminal action, a felony that carries a penalty of at least three years in prison.
Carr was being held this morning (May 16) in the Jefferson County Jail on a $750,000 bond.
