The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fire that destroyed two vehicles outside a home between Hillsboro and Barnhart. The fire destroyed a 1994 Ford F-350 and a 2002 Ford Escort, both which were inoperable, authorities reported.
The Goldman Fire Protection District got a call at 7:12 a.m. Oct. 8 about the fire in the 4100 block of Marble Springs Road. Firefighters arrived at 7:16 a.m., and the fire was under control in about 10 minutes, Chief Curtis Peters said.
Because the vehicles were inoperable and neither had batteries, there was no indication how a fire would have started. Peters said firefighters contacted the Sheriff’s Office shortly after extinguishing the blaze.
No one was injured by the fire, but some siding on a nearby shed melted, Peters said.
The Antonia, Hillsboro, Mapaville and Dunklin Fire Protection Districts helped with the call, and the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District responded to the scene, Peters said.
The owner of the vehicles said they had been inoperable for several months. There was no evidence found near or inside the vehicles to indicate how the fire started, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
As of Oct. 10, no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the fire to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
