Staff and first responders were able to keep a fire from damaging a shop building at the De Soto Country Club Golf Course on Monday, De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald said.
He said firefighters were dispatched to a fire at 2:27 p.m. at Stone Gate Drive near Green Briar Drive in the Briar Wood Estates just west of De Soto.
“Law enforcement advised a vehicle was on fire in a building,” Fitzgerald said. “The first (fire department) unit arrived to find a commercial mower fully involved inside a shop building at the De Soto Country Club Golf Course. Workers and law enforcement were using extinguishers that did not extinguish but undoubtedly did help (keep the fire from spreading).”
He said firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. He said the mower was destroyed but there was no major structural damage to the building.
De Soto Fire Department, Hillsboro and Hematite fire protection districts, and Valle Ambulance District assisted with the fire.
