About 175 CDs, a rifle and other items recently were stolen from a home in the 2500 block of Hwy. Z in the Pevely area, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Between 10 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. March 24, someone entered the home through the unlocked front door and stole the CDs, along with a .22 Marlin rifle with scope, an Army backpack with a name sewn on it and a child’s “Transformer” backpack, altogether valued at about $1,850, the report said.

In addition, cabinets had been gone through and items were lying on the floor, according to the report.

Someone who was at Victory Church, which is near the home, reported seeing a man standing near a large trash bin with a backpack and what appeared to be a cane at about 11 a.m. that day, according to the report.

The witness also said that the man used a cell phone and shortly after a black car with a personalized plate pulled into the parking lot, the man got inside and then left in the car, which could have been a Chevrolet Cavalier. The license plate said, “ACCESS” or “EXCEPT” or something similar, the report said.

No arrests had been made as of March 27, said Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
