fatal accident with road lines in background

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is asking for help with its investigation into a fatal, one-vehicle accident that happened at about 11:45 a.m. June 13 on I-55 in northern Cape Girardeau County. The driver, a 34-year-old Pevely man, died in the crash, and family members have identified him as James “Daltin” Mulverhill.

The family also reported that prior to the crash Mulverhill used talk-to-text to send a message to his wife saying that an older man in a pickup truck was trying to run him off the road.

The Pevely man was driving a southbound 2022 Volkswagen Taos 9 miles north of Fruitland when the SUV ran off the road, striking a rock and ejecting him. He was pronounced dead at 12:16 p.m. by Cape Girardeau County Coroner Craig Williams, the report said.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt, and the SUV was totaled, the patrol reported.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is asking anyone who witnessed the accident to call the patrol at 573-840-9500.
