A man allegedly burrowed through a wall to gain entry into a Eureka car dealership and then took six keys to pickups, one of which he stole, Eureka Police reported.
Surveillance video from Gateway Car Connection, 1721 W. Fifth St., shows a man at about 2:30 p.m. Nov. 18 climbing through a 2-foot diameter hole created to get through a wall to a rear office in the building. The video shows a man – described as having a thin build, wearing light-colored pants, a dark hooded sweatshirt, a baseball cap and gloves with reflective material around the knuckles – come through the hole, the report said.
The man was seen holding a gun when he entered the building, and he holstered it in his pants as he made his way to an office in the dealership. In the office, he was seen breaking into a locked key box and removing six keys, according to the report.
The man then returned to the room he entered through the hole, pulled his gun back out and exited through the hole. He then took a red 2005 Dodge Ram 1500, which had recently been delivered to the dealership and had an Oklahoma license plate, the report said.
Officers also discovered that a 6-foot-tall chain link fence on the dealership’s property had been cut and pried open, according to the report.
The pickup was valued at $28,000, and the keys at $850. The damage to the building was estimated at $200, the report said.
As of Nov. 21, the man in the surveillance video had not been identified, and the stolen pickup and keys had not been recovered, Capt. David Wilson said. He asks anyone with information about the incident should call Eureka Police at 636-938-6601.
