Jason King, 40, has been charged with four felonies for allegedly beating his grandparents with a golf club at his grandparents’ home in the 600 block of Schmelz Drive in Eureka, according to court documents.

King, who has two listed addresses – one at his grandparents’ home and the other in Imperial – has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault on a special victim and two counts of armed criminal action. Each of the assault charges is a class B felony punishable by five to 15 years in prison, and each of the armed criminal action charges is an unclassified felony punishable by no less than three years in prison.

As of Nov. 11, he was being held in the St. Louis County Jail without bail and was forbidden to contact his grandparents, court documents said.

The alleged assault occurred Nov. 3 at the home on Schmelz Drive. King’s other listed address is in the 1000 block of Walnut Crest Drive in Imperial, Eureka Police reported.

King allegedly assaulted his grandparents after they accused him of stealing their medication, police reported.

His grandmother, who is 83, and his grandfather, who is 86, were transported to an area hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, the report said.

Police were called at about 1 p.m. Nov. 3 to the home and found King on the back porch, and he allegedly admitted to hitting his grandparents with a golf club, the probable-cause statement in the case said.

King’s grandmother said King first assaulted her with a wooden cane before switching to a nine-iron golf club, repeatedly hitting her on the head. She had injuries to her head, including a cut that bled heavily, and to her hands, the report said.

King’s grandfather said he heard the two arguing, went to the family room and saw King hitting his wife on the head with a golf club. The grandfather said he tried to intervene, but King threw him to the ground, according to the report.

King then allegedly started hitting his grandfather with the golf club. At one point, the club hit the couch and the head flew off, and King allegedly put the point of the shaft on his grandfather’s neck and said he was going to shove it down his grandfather’s throat, the report said.

King’s grandfather had a cut so deep on his hand that his pinky finger was nearly severed, and a cut on his arm was down to the bone, the probable-cause statement said.

King also allegedly said he was going to kill his grandparents several times during the incident before stopping and heading to the back porch, according to the report.
