A home in the 3500 block of Fountain City Road east of De Soto was significantly damaged by fire late on Oct. 1, said Lt. John Scullin, spokesman for the De Soto Rural Fire Protection District.
Residents were home at the time but got out safely, he said.
De Soto Rural Fire got a call at 11:30 p.m. about the two-alarm fire, Scullin said.
He said he didn’t know how many occupants were in the house.
“The family was home at the single-story ranch house,” Scullin said. “There was substantial damage. They must find housing elsewhere. Red Cross was notified.”
He said the cause of the fire was undetermined as of Tuesday (Oct. 6).
Firefighters remained on the scene until about 2:30 a.m. Oct. 2, Scullin said.
The De Soto and Festus fire departments and the Hematite, Hillsboro, Jefferson R-7, Mapaville and Herculaneum fire protection districts helped with the call. The Big River Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
