The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of equipment worth about $2,000 from Modern Weapon Systems, 300 Biltmore Drive, in the Jefferson County portion of Fenton. Authorities believe at least four people were involved in the burglary, which occurred after a Kia Forte that had been reported stolen was used to ram the front door of the business, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
At 4:59 a.m. Oct. 29, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a business alarm at the business, and when deputies arrived at 5:04 a.m., they found the Forte running near the smashed front door. Deputies used a robot to search the interior of the business, and no one was found inside, the report said.
Surveillance video allegedly showed a silver Kia and a red Kia arrive at the business. The sliver Kia was driven into the front door twice, shattering the glass. Then, two people got out of the car and allegedly used guns to break away more of the glass before entering the building and stealing two AR-15 uppers, a 50-found Glock magazine and multiple magazine extensions, according to the report.
The culprits then got into the red Kia, which had at least two other people inside, and drove away from the business, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The gun shop owner said there were no firearms in the front display area of the store, which is the only place the suspects gained access to during the incident, the report said.
Deputies also discovered the Kia that was used to ram the front door had been reported stolen from St. Louis County, according to the report.
As of Nov. 4, none of the stolen items had been recovered, and no suspects had been identified, spokesman Grant Bissell said. He asks anyone with information about the burglary to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
