Firefighters rescued four dogs and a cat from a De Soto house fire on Oct. 2, fire officials said.
De Soto Capt. Scott Scharf said firefighters were dispatched at 2:42 p.m. to a two-story home in the 500 block of South Second Street after a bystander saw smoke and heard smoke detectors sounding. A small fire was extinguished in the kitchen, and no injuries were reported.
He said fire damage was limited to a small area in the kitchen with smoke damage throughout the house.
Firefighters were assisted at the scene by Valle Ambulance District, De Soto Police Department, and Hematite and Hillsboro fire protection districts. Jefferson R-7 Fire Protection District assisted with other calls.
