A fire destroyed a garage in the 14500 block of Hardin Road south of Valles Mines on Monday night, Oct. 28, according to De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald said firefighters were dispatched at 11:32 p.m. When firefighters arrived, the detached garage was fully engulfed in flames and spreading to brush.
He said no other buildings were damaged and no injuries were reported. Firefighters remained on the scene until 1:30 a.m.
“It started from a previous controlled burn after winds stirred up what was a Saturday burn pile,” Fitzgerald said.
The Hematite, Jefferson R-7 and Big River fire protection districts along with the De Soto Fire Department assisted with the fire. The Valle Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
The Festus Fire Department and Cedar Hill and Hillsboro fire protection districts handled De Soto Rural’s other calls while the fire was being extinguished.
