Blaze destroys two-story structure detached from Hillsboro home
A two-story structure near a home in the 4900 block of Tree Ridge Trail in Hillsboro was destroyed by a fire last week. The structure includes a garage on the first floor and a finished apartment on the second floor, Hillsboro Fire Chief Brian Gaudet said.
He said the person who lives in the apartment was not there when the fire started on Aug. 26, and no injuries were reported.
The Hillsboro Fire Protection Dist4rict received a call at approximately 2:20 p.m. about the fire, and when firefighters arrived, they found the building, which is detached from the main house, ablaze. It was “well-involved,” with fire burning through the roof, Gaudet said.
“The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, but it was a total loss,” he said.
Firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to the main house, but the siding was damaged, Gaudet said.
He said firefighters remained on scene until about 5 p.m.
The Red Cross is helping the person who had been living in the apartment before it was destroyed, Gaudet said.
The cause of the fire is not considered suspicious, he said.
“We believe the cause to probably be electrical in nature,” Gaudet said.
The city of De Soto Fire Department and the De Soto Rural, Goldman, Mapaville, Cedar Hill and Antonia fire protection districts helped with the call, and the Valle Ambulance District responded to the scene, too.
