A 33-year-old Festus man was arrested for allegedly trying to stab three members of his family during a domestic dispute at a home in the 800 block of Jefferson Avenue. No one was injured during the incident, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.

He said the incident occurred about 3 p.m. on Aug. 29.

“It was a reported attempted stabbing during a large domestic dispute,” Lewis said. “Officers arrested a 33-year-old man for attempting to stab several relatives – a 61-year-old man, a 62-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman.”

While the suspect apparently did not stab his relatives, it is not clear if he simply missed or was only trying to frighten them, Lewis said.

“We do not know if he was just threatening them or not,” he said.

Lewis said police quickly found the suspect.

“He was arrested a short distance away from the house,” Lewis said.

Festus Police will seek charges against the man for first-degree assault, and as of Tuesday, Aug. 30, the suspect was being held in the Festus Jail, Lewis said.
