A Festus-area man is facing several felony charges for allegedly molesting a young girl.
James B. Evans Sr., 65, has been charged with six counts of statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy with a child younger than 12 years old, an unclassified felony that carries a penalty of 10 years to life in prison, according to court records.
The alleged sexual molestation occurred several times between March 2018 and April 2019. Evans allegedly admitted to molesting the child, according to the probable-cause statement in the case.
He was being held Oct. 4 in the Jefferson County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
A criminal setting hearing in the case is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, in front of Jefferson County Div. 14 Associate Circuit Judge Tim Miller.
